Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
The pupil premium is a grant given by the government to schools in England to decrease the attainment gap for the most disadvantaged children, whether by income or by family upheaval. For each pupil who is eligible for free school meals, their school receives £1,550.
In the 2026 to 2027 financial year, schools will receive the following funding for each pupil registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years:
- £1,550 for pupils in reception to year 6.
- £1,100 for pupils in year 7 to year 11.
- £2,690 for any previously looked-after child (PLAC).
- £2,690 for any looked-after child (LAC).
- £360 for eligible pupils from service families.
Who is Eligible?
Your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium if they:
- Are currently entitled to Free School Meals
- Have been entitled to Free School Meals at any point during the last six years
- Are looked-after by a local authority
- Have previously been looked after and subsequently adopted or made subject to a special guardianship or child arrangements order
- Meet the criteria for Service Pupil Premium (where applicable)
If you are unsure whether your child is eligible, please contact the school office in confidence.
Why Register for Free School Meals (FSM)?
Even if your child prefers a packed lunch or receives universal infant free school meals, registering may still benefit your family and the school.
Registration could:
- Enable the school to receive additional funding to support your child
- Increase access to additional support and opportunities
- Help the school provide targeted resources and interventions
All information is treated confidentially.

Post Looked After (PLAC)
It is for those with parental responsibility to decide if they wish to self-declare their children’s post-looked status to schools. This information is kept confidential within school but would give your child an additional £2,690 of funding per academic year. Please note that families need to re-self-declare when their child moves school. To inform school of this, please complete the online form.
