Personal Statement

I’m Alison Rigby (was Hardwick). I’m the Chair of Governors for The Park Schools Federation. I’ve been a teacher for over 30 years working in primary schools and special schools. I joined Nottinghamshire County Council in 2003 as an Early Years Specialist Teacher giving advice to day nurseries, playgroups and childminders about child development and learning. I am now a Social, Emotional and Mental Health Specialist Teacher working with primary schools in Nottinghamshire to support children who are struggling in a classroom socially or emotionally. I am passionate about helping schools, parents and children understand how children develop emotionally and how we can support every child to become emotionally aware and able to recognise, talk about and manage the big feelings we all face throughout our lives. I also have qualifications in Nurture, Trama Informed Practice and Therapeutic Play.

I joined Park Schools Federation as a governor because I want to share the experience I have of working in education and to make a real contribution to a school beyond my work as a teacher. I will work hard as Chair Of Governors to support the staff, the families and the community of Park – to be the best we can be.

Away from work and school I am in a choir and enjoy singing (often badly) in the car and at our choir performances. I love bouncing around a field at festivals and Rock City is my favourite place to be listening to bands and avoiding the mosh pit. I live with my husband and 4 young adults so it’s a busy house!
